In France and around the world, there are family animals that live far from the warmth of a home. These wandering populations are caused by two factors: abandonment and uncontrolled reproduction. One Voice thinks that it is our duty to help them.
Species that depend on us
As “domesticating” humans, we have created species that depend on us for their survival. Dogs and cats, even if cats are not necessarily dependent on us, are therefore our responsibility. Yet almost everywhere humans abandon them or let them reproduce unchecked. The result is huge numbers of stray pets, in general considered as a nuisance, starving and a risk of disease.
One Voice protests against this situation. We feel that we must assume our responsibilities to the end. Since it is our fault these animals are in the street, we must do everything we can to change their existence. They are also entitled to respect.
Rehabilitation of stray dogs
The situation is especially problematic for dogs. In overseas regions of France and in many countries, such as in India in Darjeeling, they suffer malnutrition and transmit epidemics that may be extremely serious, both for other animals and humans, notably rabies. What’s more, they are often mistreated by local populations which, justifiably, see these animals as a potential danger.
One Voice’s mission is therefore to rehabilitate these animals through campaigns to vaccinate and sterilise animals and educate the public. These operations are vital to relieve the suffering of these animals.

For a real “free cat” policy
In France, One Voice is supporting the Ecole du chat, thanks to which the free cat status has been recognised. Unfortunately, the situation for cats remains highly problematic. Many people abandon their cats without a second thought, believing that the cat will be able to manage on its own. But cats that do manage to survive end up being captured by specialist companies, just like rats or pigeons. Other countries have a real policy for free cats, while in France only small associations and “cat schools” look after them with very few resources. One Voice denounces this situation and is calling on politicians and elected representatives to act.
