Over the last few years, a new, illegal leisure activity has been developing in France: dog-fighting. Trade and trafficking go hand in hand with this activity. One Voice is taking a stand against this particularly cruel activity.
Doubtless connected to the fashion for fierce dogs, some humans – for fun and to make money – are organising dog fights. Trained to attack other dogs, beaten from a young age to develop their aggression, these animals cannot really be called dogs. Their natural instincts have been subverted, they have been reconditioned and turned into killing machines, training on other stolen dogs who end up as their victims.
Pit bulls and related dogs – who are bred in secret as their reproduction is banned in France – are traded for large sums of money. Other puppies, which are brought in from Eastern Europe, swell the "population" with animals which are no less unbalanced. For all of these animals, life will end sooner or later in a cellar or other sordid place with no hope of knowing a normal life. Even if they are rescued, their mental state is so affected that they can never be adopted.
One Voice is working with authorities to see an end to this practice and prosecutes those involved in it.
